On May 28th, Angie Tong Yinan from the British Tourist Authority, Vivienne Song Dandan, the China Market Promotion Representative for the London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Maira Wang Mengya, the Chinese Market Representative for Gatwick Airport in London, and Feng Zhen, Director of Product Research and Development at CITS (China International Travel Service), attended the event. They shared the latest travel insights about UK destinations.
Ms. Vivienne Song Dandan highlighted LNER, the UK’s leading provider of long-distance rail services along the East Coast Main Line. She showcased the line’s prime attractions and the new Azuma trains, which started operating in 2019. These trains travel up to 125 miles per hour and are designed to enhance rail travel in the UK by connecting beautiful destinations along the East Coast in a faster, more comfortable, and eco-friendly way.

“LNER: A Key to the East Coast’s Treasures” Says Vivienne Song
Ms. Vivienne Song stated, “LNER is not just a pioneer of rail transport in the UK; it’s also a key to linking destinations along the East Coast and a vital part of the tourism experience there.”
Travelling north from London, crossing from England into Scotland, passengers can enjoy stunning landscapes that range from urban cityscapes and highlands to coastal views and open wilderness. The most celebrated part of the LNER journey is known as the ‘Coastal Route’, often referred to by enthusiasts as the ‘British Miyazaki-style seaside train,’ offering views of lush greenery and expansive blue seas.
Recently, LNER collaborated with a popular British food blogger for the ‘LNER Travel Guide Series’. This series addresses common questions through an immersive travel experience, making trips smoother and enhancing the rail travel experience across the UK’s East Coast.

Gatwick Airport Enhances Focus on Chinese Market
Maira Wang Mengya, the Chinese Market Representative for London Gatwick Airport, provided a detailed overview of the airport’s advantages, facilities, and services at the event.
Gatwick Airport, the second largest in the UK, is set to increase its focus on the Chinese market in 2024. Surge in Family Travel: Insights from Ctrip
The event coincided with Children’s Day, which saw a remarkable 40% increase in family travel bookings compared to the previous year, according to Ctrip. The trend indicates a strong preference for water parks, educational travel, and local destinations, reflecting the broader impact of the family-oriented “cute economy” on tourism.
2024 Dragon Boat Festival: Local and Short Trips Gain Popularity
As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, there is a noticeable trend towards shorter, local vacations. Data from Ctrip shows a 20% increase in domestic bookings for nearby destinations, with a significant preference for short-duration trips accessible by high-speed train. This shift suggests a growing interest in micro-vacations and cultural experiences close to home.
Global Travel Trends: Preferences and Patterns
The Dragon Boat Festival also influences international travel, with destinations like Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia ranking high among preferred locations. Tuniu’s data highlights a rise in 2-day and 3-day international trips, especially among younger travellers, emphasising a trend towards flexible, small-group tours.
