Starting May 15, 2024, the National Immigration Administration of China announced a visa exemption for foreign tour groups traveling by cruise. This new policy allows these groups to enter through 13 designated coastal cruise ports, including Tianjin, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, without a visa. Tourists can stay up to 15 days and travel within coastal regions and Beijing, enhancing travel ease and boosting tourism.

According to the British Tourist Authority, direct flights between China and the UK have shown significant growth, with approximately 106 weekly flights, 80% of which are operated by Chinese airlines like Air China and China Eastern. By June 2024, the number is expected to rise to 114 direct flights per week, including services from Beijing and Guangzhou to London Gatwick Airport (LGW). This increase aligns with a robust recovery in the aviation sector, with LGW expecting around 500,000 annual passengers from China.

Hotel bookings in Japan have surged nearly sixfold year-on-year, with significant increases also seen in the USA and France. Popular destinations among international tourists include Thailand, South Korea, and Vietnam, indicating a strong recovery and preference for Asian destinations among global travellers.
During the “May Day” holiday, Hong Kong and Macau witnessed a remarkable increase in mainland Chinese tourists. Hong Kong reported approximately 766,000 visitors, a 22% increase from the previous year, contributing over 2 billion Hong Kong dollars to the local economy despite rainy weather. Meanwhile, Macau saw over 600,000 visitors, with hotel occupancy rates soaring above 90%, reflecting a vibrant tourism sector.
